We’re home!

As some of you know, my husband and I were recently in Africa. In June of 2008, I was given the opportunity to travel to Ethiopia and meet and photograph the children of two Kingdom Vision International orphanages. Although my husband and I had always considered adoption as a way of growing our family, it wasn’t until that trip that we knew for sure that we were called to adopt a child from Ethiopia. So, after a lengthy homestudy, mountains of paperwork and lots of learning, growing, praying and waiting, on January 11th, 2010, we finally met our daughter, Sara Zubeida Schultz!

We have been home for about a month now, and although the transition to becoming a family of five has had its share of new challenges, overall it has gone beautifully.

Speaking of beautiful… here is my daughter!

Before I post these next photos, I just want to say that the photos below are not just images to me, they are my passion. There is nothing in my work that gives me more life than taking and editing photos like these. This is why I do what I do.

Holiday Hours

Happy Holidays, everyone! I am so excited to celebrate Christmas this year! Here is my updated Holiday office schedule:

December 23rd-27th: Closed

December 28th-January 1: Open (for calls, emails and viewing sessions–no photo sessions available)

Also, a reminder that Genesis Photography will be CLOSED for the month of January. Click here for more information.

And of course, I can’t post without including some photos!

This is my last senior of the year! Despite the bright sun and the chilly temps, we managed to have a great shoot. You see, Ben is an avid hockey player, and is very familiar with the cold. And although I am sure there is a big difference between working out on a rink with hockey gear on and getting your photos taken, Ben did a great job under the frigid conditions!

Crunch time

Well, with the Christmas celebrations next week and our upcoming trip to Ethiopia, it has been CRAZY around here. My house is a disaster, my to-do list is a mile long, and the excitement is building! Less than three weeks until we meet our daughter!!! I promised a photo of her, so that you all could see how beautiful she is. This was taken by a friend of ours who recently visited the orphanage. Check our her one tiny little tooth!

Holidays? Already?

Well, with the holidays in full swing, my blog has been a little bit neglected. I am hoping to get caught up on some posts this week. And stay tuned for some photos of our baby girl! I will post photos soon!

I am so excited to show you these photos! This is a beautiful senior who just recently moved to Eau Claire. She was up for anything, and so we tried a few locations, and ended up in a park in front of some gorgeous cattails. It was a bit muddy under the feet, but I think the results made it worth the work! (Btw, I know I already posted this photo in my last entry, but I just really love it, so I guess you will just have to deal with it! haha!)

Update

As many of you may know, my husband and I are in the process of adopting a baby girl from Ethiopia! Things are finally getting closer to our travel dates (which have yet to be finalized) and we are very excited! We can’t wait to welcome our little girl into our family and into our lives forever…

Because of this, I will be taking some time away from my typical photography schedule to care for my new baby. SO, my tentative schedule for the next few months looks like this:

November – FULLY BOOKED

December – Slots left for two newborn shoots and one maternity shoot FULLY BOOKED

January – CLOSED for booking, but limited Viewing Sessions will be available

February – Very Limited booking (please feel free to contact me now for these 3-4 sessions)

March – Resume regular schedule

Thank you so much for keeping my upcoming schedule in mind as you consider your future plans with Genesis Photography.

Here is another wonderful family from a shoot a while back. We had a great time out in the country air (minus the slight scent o’ manure–haha!) on some land that this family owns and has plans to build on someday. They informed me that this was their first official family photo shoot EVER. What an honor to be the first photographer to capture this family in photos!

Flu, Flu, go away…

Well, for the last 8 days I have been sick with the flu. The cough, nose, throat, body ache, laying-in-bed kind. And if you read my last post you know that I DON’T HAVE TIME TO BE SICK!!!!! Well, I was finally able to finish these images for these awesome people last night, who have been so kind to me while waiting for their photos (as you can see from their attire, this shoot took place WEEKS ago!)

So a little bit about them…

There are times in our lives when we meet people who are truly deeply in love, deeply connected, and just overall great people. They enjoy each other, they know how to live life to the fullest, and they radiate kindness and peace.
